BCI Research Scientist
Position Overview
Lead R&D efforts in neurotechnology, signal processing for brain activity, and development of BCI protocols and applications. You'll work on cutting-edge brain-computer interface systems, developing novel approaches to decode neural signals, design BCI paradigms, and create practical applications for medical, research, and consumer contexts.
This role combines neuroscience, signal processing, machine learning, and human-computer interaction to push the boundaries of direct brain-to-device communication. You'll collaborate with neuroscientists, clinicians, and engineers to develop BCI systems for motor control, communication, and cognitive augmentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and conduct BCI experiments using EEG, ECoG, or invasive recording techniques
- Develop advanced signal processing pipelines for real-time neural decoding
- Implement machine learning models to classify motor imagery, P300, SSVEP, and other BCI paradigms
- Create closed-loop BCI systems with adaptive algorithms and real-time feedback
- Research novel BCI approaches including hybrid BCIs and multi-modal neural interfaces
- Develop BCI applications for assistive technology, neurorehabilitation, and cognitive enhancement
- Collaborate with IRB processes and ensure ethical compliance in BCI research
- Analyze neural data using time-frequency analysis, ICA, source localization, and connectivity metrics
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at neuroscience conferences
- Work with clients and partners to translate BCI research into practical applications

Qualifications
- PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Science, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in BCI research with demonstrated publications or patents
- Expert knowledge of neural signal acquisition, preprocessing, and feature extraction
- Strong background in neuroscience, neurophysiology, and cognitive neuroscience
- Experience with real-time BCI systems and closed-loop paradigms
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB for scientific computing
- Experience conducting human subjects research with IRB approval
- Familiarity with clinical BCI applications and assistive technology preferred
